Poem - Brand New Person
Brand New Person
When you were born the family gathered round
They said “Oh look, there’s Auntie’s eyes, there’s Granddad’s nose”
They seemed to want to see
themselves reflected in your face
Our friends all agreed
That it must be cool to have
a mini version of yourself to mould
and undo past mistakes
When I looked at you I could see only you
A brand new person
Owning infinite possibilities
Content, without the weight of history
This is all I want for you;
To be completely you and no-one else.
