Poem - What My Parents Told Me About Love
What My Parents Told Me About Love
‘You don’t choose who you love’ my father said
When it comes you must accept it
Though others may not understand your happiness
It is how it will be.
My mother told me that you lose the animal passion
But are left with what you need
Someone to laugh with on the sofa
Who brings home your favourite beer
and flavour of crisps.
They said it’s not the love that is hard work
It is the cohabitation
You leave all the cupboards open, I am a nightmare when I’m hungry
Yet here we are
Together
